The Department of French in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a two-year contractually limited term appointment in Quebec and/or 20th Century French Literature. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1st, 2019.
We seek candidates whose teaching and research expertise focus on either or both fields, with a solid background in literary theory (deconstruction, gender, performance, queer, (post)structuralism, etc.). The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence both in research and in teaching at the University level. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants must have:
- A PhD in Quebec/French literature at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter;
- Evidence of excellence in research demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant academic journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards;
- External grants, presentations at significant conferences, and strong endorsement from referees of high standing;
- Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through strong endorsements by referees, teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier, a teaching statement, sample course syllabi, and the teaching evaluations submitted as part of the application.
Candidates must have native or near-native French proficiency and be able to work effectively in English.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
