French Syntax

Description:

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the study of French syntax as well as to universal syntactic properties of natural languages within the frame of Chomskyan Generative Grammar. Students will be familiarized with the tools and methods used in current syntactic research, given access to recent theoretical works and, more generally, the course will improve their analytical skills and deepen their knowledge of the structure of French.

Assignments and evaluation:

one take home assignment (25%), 2 tests (2x25%), one reading report (15%), overall assessment (10%).

Prerequisite:

FRE 272H1 + FRE 274H1.
