Sociolinguistics of French

Description:

A study of the relationship between language use and social factors such as socio-economic status, types of situation, and speaker gender. Theoretical notions are derived through the analysis of specific data, focusing on Canadian French and other varieties spoken in the Americas. Topics will include languages in contact, geographical variation, and social and gender-based variation.
