Biography

Catherine Gaughan completed her Ph.D. in French Literature and Cinema at the University of Toronto. She was pensionnaire étrangère at the École Normale Supérieure de Paris for a year and has also previously taught at the École Normale Supérieure Lettres et Sciences Humaines de Lyon and the Université du Havre in France. She is active in the academic cultural scene, and her reviews of works related to 19th- and 20th-century Francophone arts, history, and culture can be found in The French Review. Her monograph, published in 2022, is entitled La poésie et le cinéma de Jean Cocteau et de Jacques Prévert des années trente et quarante and focuses on the representation of objects in their works from aesthetic, filmic, and phenomenological perspectives.
