The French Department seeks 1 Teaching Assistant for the following course:

FCS292H1F - Love, Sex and Desire in French Literature and Cinema

This online, asynchronous course will explore the themes of love, sex and desire in French literature and cinema through close reading, analysis, and interpretation of three major novels from the eighteenth to the twentieth literature. A comparative approach based on various examples taken from literary, philosophical texts and from film adaptations will examine the concept of love and its many definitions. Selections from ancient and modern philosophical texts on love, sex, and desire will be the starting point of our discussions: Ovid, "The Art of Love", Plato, "The Symposium", Bataille, "Eroticism", Beauvoir, "The Woman in Love", and Foucault, "The History of Sexuality".

Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral student in French Studies. Knowledge of French culture and literature, native(-like) written mastery of English.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent written mastery of French. Extensive knowledge of the use of Quercus, specifically test manager and communication tools.

Relevant Criterion

Previous experience is the more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.

Duties:

Marking of assignments; meeting with course instructor.

Duties of this position shall be performed at the campus on which the position is located. Where the duties are intended to be performed at another location, such other location will be specified in the posting.
Final availability of the position(s) is contingent upon enrolment, budgetary consideration and the determination of appointments as governed by the collective agreement.

70 students

Rate of Pay:

SGS II - $51.93/hour (+ vacation pay)
