French for the Workplace

Description:

This is a hybrid (one hour online, two hours in-class) course designed to enhance students’ existing knowledge of French by giving them a theoretical as well as a practical foundation in the use of French for the workplace. Students will learn how to communicate in writing in a variety of professional contexts as well as how to distinguish between the formal and informal styles of French suitable for diverse situations at work. This course also aims to help students acquire intercultural skills needed in the Francophone workplace. Emphasis will be placed on the quality of writing as well as on the specialised and appropriate vocabulary used within the context of communication in the Francophone workplace. Quality of French will count for 50-60% in all tests and assignments.

Overall Assessment (10%), Online Quizzes (10%), Job Application Project (20%), Writing Assignments (20%), In-class Tests (40%).

Prerequisite:

FSL221Y (63%) or, upon first FRE/FSL, enrolment equivalent as determined by the French Placement Test.

Exclusion:

FSL 321Y1 and higher. Not open to fluent or native speakers of French.
