Practical Translation: French-English
This course, which works as an introduction to translation, is designed to improve students’ mastery of French through English to French and French to English translations. Emphasis is on the practice of translation of a variety of texts and documents, and on the introduction to the practice of oral interpretation from one language to the other. Its theoretical and practical objectives include: an introduction to basic terminologies and to the main aspects of translation, the comparison of both French and English languages and how some of their characteristics pertain to the problems of translation, as well as regular practice of translation and interpretation through a variety of media (literary texts, news articles, movies excerpts, etc.).

Assignment and evaluation:
2 quizzes (course based: 5% & 5%); 1 in-class (oral & written) translation (15%); 1 Mid-Term test (course based: 20%); 2 take-home assignments (20%); 1 end-of-term test (25%); overall assessment (10%)
